Cie Omnibus

Cie Omnibus
  • 1970
  • Canada

The company is closely associated with the École du Mime, doing pioneering work in action theatre and having a great influence on the work of several artists. Omnibus constantly seeks to combine words and actions more intimately, both with modern theatre and the great texts of the classical repertory.

Omnibus is still directed by Jean Asselin today, and includes the following permanent artists: Francine Alepin, Denise Boulanger and Christian Le Blanc.

Jean Asselin studied mime before going on to work in theatre in Montreal, London, Prague and Paris. He honed his skills under Étienne Decroux for five years, assisting him in his dramaturgical research.
A cofounder and artistic director of Omnibus, he has directed some forty shows since 1970 and has made a name for himself as one of the most innovative directors in contemporary theatre.
His career as a teacher has brought him to leading schools in Canada and other countries, teaching, giving special courses and directing many plays.
