D.N.B’s creations draw on everything from music, theatre and dance to modern circus arts, singing and mime. The driving force behind these performances may be a certain sound, or an urgent message to be shared, or the pleasure of discovering new artists and writers. They are aimed at people of all ages and backgrounds, leaving room for a vast spectrum of interpretations in a bid to share this poetic vision with even the youngest audiences, or those most suspicious of the performing arts.

D.N.B stands for Dhéâdre Nasional de Baris, a name which perfectly encapsulates the company’s blend of exacting standards and self-deprecating humour. The name has also proved to be very useful when pitching shows and negotiating contracts – especially when the person on the other end of the phone gets the impression that you’re a pretty important person with a nasty cold.

For D.N.B, multi-disciplinarity goes hand-in-hand with multiculturalism, a philosophy reinforced by the international tours the company has embarked upon in recent years. Each new country visited is an opportunity for mutual enrichment, and the Company is a proud champion of cultural cross-fertilisation. That collaborative spirit also extends to the company’s relationship with Association L’Ecluse, a collective structure pooling the human and material resources required to produce and promote live performance in countless forms, helping to further the progression of its affiliated companies (DNB, Danse des Signes, Comme une compagnie, Les z’OMNI, Compagnie de l’Inutile et Compagnie 11h11).
