Cie Dame de Pic / Karine Pontiès

A solo piece choreographed by Karine Pontiès and focusing on the enigmatic ancestral, poetic power of ‘the boogeyman’.

A body appears: the terrifying sight of the boogeyman, a frightful character who exists to embody the danger of certain places or occasions. His arms and legs get tangled up as the wind drives him onwards, staggering to and fro with a series of bizarre gestures, punctuated by sudden moments of collapse and reanimation. He stretches to outrageous dimensions, stutters, gives up and goes to frolic in the garden, falls over, gets back up…

The blood rises to his head, his cheeks fill up as if they’re about to explode.

As yours would, if you were subsumed by such a wave of emotions. He accepts his role as righter of wrongs: no rest for the wicked. He was born that way: in a moment of anger, in an age defined by rage.

Myself and the Other coexist within the same body, oscillating between two modes of existence. Inert things come to life, while living beings float free of their earthly shells. A show which defies the laws of physics, playfully manipulating our perceptions.
