"The mission statement of Théâtres du Shaman is ""an artistic quest focusing on the creation of performance pieces. This quest will afford particular importance to exploring sound, imagery and movement. More broadly, the association will devote itself to a vision of theatre that prioritises on-stage action and the creation of atmospheres, rather than the spatial interpretation of existing texts.”
The original shows created by Théâtres du Shaman stand apart in the French theatrical landscape. Theirs is a resolutely contemporary approach to writing, not because the “author” is still living but because it is left to the audience to form their own images of the fleeting moments that they witness on stage. It is up to them to put a name to these experiences. The process is not always entirely conscious, as the images insinuate themselves subtly into mind and spirit. The characters and plot of these happenings are what the spectator-dreamer makes of them.
Théâtres du Shaman has received backing from DRAC Rhône Alpes and the Rhône Alpes region, and financial support from the City of Lyon. The group has also received regular support from Cultures France for its overseas projects."
