compagnie Cotillard loves nothing more than dissecting the stereotypes and assumptions of modern life, those quirks which have becomes so familiar that we barely recognise them. Claude Cotillard is an alumnus of the Ecole Decroux, endowed with both a cutting sense of irony and a joyous tomfoolery, revelling in the minutiae of movement. His theatrical language draws upon burlesque and mime, honing in on the power of gesture and sound. The company’s creations are stylistically and thematically diverse, inspired by cartoons as much as by the golden age of silent movies. The influence of Jacques Tati is plain to see in the exuberant physicality of the actors, bringing these extravagant characters to life.
