A graduate of the Japanese Institute of Mime, Shûji Onodera served as director of theatre company Mizuto Abura before founding Company Derashinera in 2008. His stage creations combine elements of theatre, mime and dance.
Highlights have included stage adaptations of novels such as Albert Camus’ The Outsider and Dostoyevsky’s Brothers Karamazov. He has earned plaudits for his original style, combining dialogue with stylised movements inspired by mime. As a choreographer he has also worked with ballet prodigy Yasuyuki Shutô, as well as some of the most prominent directors in Japanese theatre.
