Since founding Compagnie 7273, Laurence Yadi and Nicolas Cantillon have been constantly developing their style: an approach to dancing based on bodies in perpetual movement, an endless whirl of expression. Their approach owes much to the maqams which form the basis of Arabic music. Breaking free from the western tonal system, this quarter-tone structure explores the spaces between notes and gives performers a great deal of freedom. Dubbed Multi styles FuittFuitt by the choreographers, their translation of this technique into the realm of corporeal performance enables the performers to weave together movements into an undulating, spiralling, hypnotic dance.
Over the course of their joint career, Laurence Yadi and Nicolas Cantillon have produced around twenty original works, ranging from a piece to be performed in total silence to a full concert of dance, covering everything from duets to ensemble pieces. The company has toured extensively (Africa, Asia, USA, Europe, Middle East, North Africa and Russia).
The company’s founding choreographers also run regular training courses in Switzerland and overseas. They have been invited to share the secrets of Multi styles FuittFuitt with young dancers in a variety of professional dance academies.
In 2014 they published an appropriately multi-faceted book, falling somewhere between a private diary and a practical guide to Multi styles FuittFuitt.
Laurence Yadi and Nicolas Cantillon have won numerous awards, including the Swiss Dance and Choreography Prize and the Liechti Foundation for the Arts Award.
