Au Fil du Vent

A duet of high-wire dancing and mime, an invitation to a musical, dream-like journey…

The lonely wanderings of a man and a woman bring them to L’Île sans nom. She lives on a wire, he lives on the ground. Who are they, what are they running from, what are they looking for? Little by little, they learn more about one another. Their movements take on a strange symmetry, as if each were the reflection, dark side or secret dream of the other. Snippets of thought emerge, entwine and engage with a sense of boundless freedom…

An oval stage turns over on itself to become the hull of a flying boat, carrying two characters off to explore the uncharted Other. One is on the ground, the other on a wire… This is the premise for Johanna Gallard’s latest creation. The artist exists in a state of constant, unsteady equilibrium, suspended above ground. From this vantage point she is constantly dreaming up new theatrical visions, new combinations of laughter and emotion. In L’Île sans nom she matches high wire-walking with gestural theatre: two “suspended” disciplines which are all about balance. The artiste on the wire is committed to her quest for equilibrium, while the mime down on the ground is free to explore the possibilities of imbalance and unsteadiness, without fear of falling. Mime conjures up invisible realities; meanwhile the high wire-walker’s weightless grace opens up new avenues of imagination. L’Île sans nom is the story of two individual quests which coincide, a meeting of minds, movements and momentum.
