Cie l'Oubliée - Raphaëlle Boitel

A body in turmoil. An impersonal, contorted body. An animal…

In this striking choreographic performance, a woman plays out her battles with her personal “demons”. Rooted to the stage or suspended from an unusual structure, evoking the 24 vertebrae of the backbone, she twists and turns, seemingly ready to break at any moment. In the stark lighting, her body and her life appear in all their wild complexity and fragile beauty, buffeted but unbowed.
Glimpses of the suffering, pressure and sacrifices of the past emerge from these exercises in extreme physical performance and the surpassing of limitations (a nod to Raphaëlle Boitel’s contortionist past), as she ultimately finds the strength to get back up.
Suspended like a delicately embroidered vision in a ray of light, Boitel presents an introspective examination of her moods, dreams, traumas, choices, moments of grace and contradictions. A story of love and life.
