La Ribot

A series of solo pieces as beautiful as they are uninhibited.

In Spain, Maria José Ribot, known simply as la Ribot, is also a movie star.
Starting out in modern dance (she once co-founded a company with Blanca Calvo), she gradually honed and developed her uniquely personal blend of dance and mime. Since 1990, her naked body and her creative spirit have been her only tools.
La Ribot decided long ago to do things the hard way: offering up her beauty and lack of inhibitions to create a stirringly intimate connection with the audience, suffused with humour and cryptic meaning. Fortunately she has the body of Venus and the mind of a surrealist poet.
She clearly enjoys the challenge, as she has never stopped taking it on. 1992 saw the premiere of her first “distinguished piece", short solo performances of dance or mime, lasting anywhere from thirty seconds to seven minutes. Each piece is dedicated to the patron who made it possible. La Ribot’s original goal was to create 100 of these solo pieces.
This particular series is entitled Encore plus distinguées. La Ribot was considered by many critics to be the female Buster Keaton of the 1990s.
