The performers throw themselves headlong into this unique ballet, rediscovering the concept of happiness in the process. Against the backdrop of a monumental sculpture which continuously transforms itself throughout the performance, they conjure up a surrealist vision of our dreams of a better world…

An immense vessel, a sort of sinister hulk, seems to be drifting amid a scattering of powerless observers (the audience)… Will it sink? The crew are struggling to keep the vessel under control. Lashed by a violent storm, their panicked attempts to survive conceal flashes of creativity, rebellion and transcendence, driven by a passionate desire to live and never give in… Hope is a powerful motivation. But there as many types of hope as there are individuals: sometimes they align, sometimes they don’t…
Taking the universal desire for happiness as its starting point, À corps perdus is a startling ballet played out on an imposing structure comprising a dance floor, an arch, four mobile and tilting Chinese poles (at a dizzying height of over 10 metres), plus a trampoline perched six metres above the ground. The stage space is reimagined as a living sculpture, a strange world to which the characters must constantly readapt. It is the force which binds together theatrical drama, musical narrative, choreographed movement and circus acrobatics. The movements of the poles and the bodies which flit around them symbolise our quest for new people, points of view, positions: the constant drive to escape defeatism and cling tight to our ideals of freedom, action and creativity.
