The RICOCHET Project

Minimalist aesthetics, a blend of body and soul, a duo of incredible power and infinite grace…

A man and a woman. Two solitudes. On a trapeze, around a chair, on smooth ropes, each executes mechanical movements, attempts to create a space. However, confronted with their own excesses, they shut themselves away in their respective prisons. They nevertheless find each other without really looking. Skin against skin. Would they not be stronger together?
What do we bond with? Are we the willing victims of a totalitarian world, although we could be happy and free?
We could overthrow the established order because everything is still possible… The two formidable artistes in Smoke and Mirrors, Laura Stokes and Cohdi Harrell, strip themselves bare in this intense and uncompromising duo, in a series of virtuoso aerial acrobatics. The beauty of the performance, over and above its aesthetic qualities, lies in the way it uses circus arts as a metaphor for the excesses of the American Dream and the quest for happiness at all costs. Smoke and Mirrors magnifies the vulnerability of an America where humanity lives on in spite of everything. A far cry from the usual American mega-productions, it is a salutary, humane performance.
